Frequently Asked Questions
- Who pays for the stock market?
- The stock market is paid for by the Cybertown Bank. The Bank will cover any
additional costs to the market. But please remember, people may lose money
on the market as well some will gain and it may even out the payouts.
- How do I make money?
- You make money by buying and selling shares. When you buy shares low
and they rise you will make a profit off of them when you sell. More
information can be found here.
- What happens to my money when I transfer it?
- Your money is safely stored in the secured bank vault.
- Where do I transfer my money to buy stocks?
- You transfer your money to "The Bank" via the donate city cash button.
More information can be found here.
- What does it mean by Closed on Sundays?
- This means that no registration forms and transfers will be processed. This
does not mean your money will be lost if you transfer it to us on Sunday.
This just means that it will be delayed for a day until you see a
confirmation of your purchase/registration/sale. (All shares bought on
a Sunday will be calculated using Saturday's share price)
- Who can or cannot play?
- Everyone who is a member of Cybertown may play.
- What happens if the stockmarket crashes?
- In the rare event of the market crashing here in CT or that everyone pulls
out all of their shares at one time, Shareholders will be paid the amount
of cc's that they actually paid for the shares that are showing
on the SM site.
- How are stock prices chosen?
- Stock prices are chosen at random using a number generating program.
They are chosen before each trading session and are only available to
one other person who has access to the website for uploading purposes.
- What is Share splitting?
- The reason for splitting a share is quite simple. When a share reaches
a very high value and more or less prices itself out of the market. Residents
will tend not to purchase this share but go for the lower priced ones. When the
Bank manager sees that the price is high and the amount of shares is very low
then the Bank Manager decides when a share is to be split and makes the announcement.
Residents are given a week's notice before a split happens. This gives everyone
the opportunity to buy shares before the day of the split.
On the actual day, every account holder of the shares to be split will receive the
additional amount of shares.
Example: If you have a total of 25,000 shares valued @ 152ccs purchaced before the
actual day of the split and the splitting rate is 4/1 then you will on the day of the
split have a total of 100,000 shares valued at 38ccs. As you can see the monetary
value is the same as the day before and you just need to wait for the shares to rise
again to profit from them, only this way you have 4 times more shares :-)
